Why Nearby Share exists

Developers often move between computers, but the things they need to hand over are not always Git-friendly: a local environment variable, a temporary project note, a quick snippet, or a small file. The usual detour is a chat app, email, or a cloud drive—each adding friction and sometimes asking you to move sensitive project information further than it needs to go.

Nearby Share brings that handoff into the IDE. It is Kashira’s new approach to quick, privacy-minded sharing between devices that are already near each other.

Where to find it

Open Settings → Nearby Share to name your device and start sharing. Nearby Share is available to Kashira devices connected to the same local Wi-Fi network.

Share something nearby

Start Nearby Share on both devices. Choose a device from the nearby list, add a title and message, then attach a small file when needed. The receiving device can save shared files into a chosen folder.

   Open Nearby Share in Settings and select Start on both Kashira devices.

   Select the nearby device you want to send to.

   Share a note, snippet, environment value, or file, then confirm it arrives on the other device.

Useful moments

Use Nearby Share to move a project-only environment value to your second machine, hand over a snippet during pairing, send a small file, or leave a project note for yourself. It is especially useful when Git is not the right channel and a normal messaging app feels too broad.

A feature growing with Kashira

Nearby Share is currently in Beta. Kashira will continue improving the sharing experience in coming releases as the feature matures. Stop sharing whenever you are done, and only accept transfers from devices you recognize.
